Dominic (2009, September 13) The first "official" Beatles EP release in the UK and a classic! The fact that all 4 of these tracks were already available on the Beatles debut album Plaese Plaese Me didn't stop this release racing to the top of the official UK singles chart as listed at that time by the BBC! The only resaon its not included in the Guinness Book of Singles Records is because they drew their listing form the Music Week publication which listed EP's in their own chart and not as part of the singles chart.
Interestingly this release had direct competition from the group that Decca Records signed in preference to the Beatles; Brian Poole & The Tremeloes who released their own version of Twist & Shout at the same time. It was the last time a another group or record label went into such direct competition against the Beatles. I'm sure you can guess why!
