Between March 1962 and June 1965, the Beatles played songs on 52 shows broadcsat nationwide by the BBC's Light Programme. British pop fans who tuned to Saturday Club , Easy Beat , Top Gear or Pop Go The Bealtes were treated to exclusive radio performances of both the familiar hits and the more unusual material from the group's eclectic pre-fame repertoire. Taken from the album Live At The BBC , Baby It's You is augmented on this EP by three radio recordings that are released here for the first time. Baby It's You
Great admirers of the American girl-groups of the early sixites, they covered this American Top Ten hit for the Shirelles on their first album Please Please Me . This BBC interpretation has a cute ending rather than the familiar fade-out on the record. I'll Follow The Sun
Released on Beatles For Sale , I'll Follow The Sun was featured, along with three other songs from the album, during their second appearance with Brain Matthew on his late night show Top Gear . (There's A) Devil In Her Heart
The marathon BBC session of 16 July 1963 - eighteen songs for three programmes - gave an opportunity to try out this song by girl-group The Donays and two days later the EMI version was taped for the second album With The Beatles . Boys
The Shirelles' original was on the flip-side of their biggest British hit Will You Love Me Tomorrow . The Beatles' first album includes Boys and this BBC take was selected from the seven occasions they recorded it for the radio. - Kevin Howlett sleevenotes of "Baby It's You" EP |
